The Democratic Party branch in the county of Shkodra has declared today they will not recognize the result of the last local elections and will not leave the municipality in the hands of the Socialist Party. Shkodra is a Democrat domain but the Socialist Party won the June 30 elections after the boycott of the opposition.

“The citizens of Shkodra will not recognize any verdict that violates the freedom and fundamental human rights”, said former Democrat MP Izmira Ulqinaku after the Court of Shkodra certified the mandate of Mayor-elect Valdrin Pjetri.

“The Constitution obliges the incumbent Mayor Voltana Ademi to stay in office till the elections of the successor in a constitutional and lawful way”, Ulqinaku added.

“Shkodra cannot allow be governed by a minority of 6% and will not surrender to crime”, she said, referring to the very low participation in the elections not only in the county of Shkodra but also countrywide.
