Albanian Premier Edi Rama attacked President Ilir Meta and the Democratic Party for their reactions to the decision of the Court of Arbitration, which ordered Albania to pay €110 million to Italian entrepreneur Francesco Becchetti. The Court of Arbitration considered the closure of Becchetti’s Agon TV channel as politically motivated. This is the highest sum ever Albania will be forced to pay due to an Arbitration decision.

Immediately after the news broke, President Meta urged Special Prosecution Against Corruption to start investigating and put the responsible before law, whereas the Democratic Party said it was Rama’s personal fight with Becchetti that will cost Albanians over €110 million.

Rama rejected any responsibility and said the trial against this “dodger” is still going ahead, despite the decision of the Court of Arbitration is final.

“Ilir Meta’s and Luli’s joy for the unjust decision of the Arbitration in favor of an individual that is wanted by the Albanian justice is as despicable as it is premature! Albania has won three out of four international trials against this dodger and the battle goes on. The charlatanesque joy of the lost-minded President and of the party that is infecting Albanians every day in its quest for power will not last and they will lose, not Albania, which, like it is winning against the invisible enemy, will also win against the unscrupulous dodger”, Rama posted on Twitter.
