Albanian Premier Edi Rama said today in the meeting of the Political Council for the electoral reform that his proposal for open electoral lists does not bans pre-electoral coalitions but only groups them. Rama said the Socialist majority does not have the necessary number of votes to approve the agreement of June 5 and that’s the reason why he is negotiation with the so-called opposition that stayed in the parliament after the Democrat Party’s and LSI’s MPs relinquished their mandates en mass last year.

“We will change neither the system nor the electoral zones. The only we’re doing is opening the lists. Let’s sit and discuss if you have any idea how to guarantee better the gender quotas”, Rama told the Council.

“We are respecting the agreement, it must be approved, but we need the votes in the parliament to do that, which we, as majority, do not have. No one is stopping your from having you alliances”, the Prime Minister addressed to the opposition representatives.
