The Albanian State Supreme Audit (KLSH) has recommended the suspension of the decision taken by the City Council of Tirana for the demolition of the National Theater until a ruling by the Constitutional Court.

The recommendation signed by KLSH chairman Bujar Leskaj is addressed to the Municipality and Mayor Erion Veliaj and advises against the demolition. It says the Constitutional Court has received the request made by Albanian President Ilir Meta to abrogate the special law that opens the way to the demolition of the National Theater and the construction of commercial towers on its public land.

“KLSH tries to keep and prevent the Mayor and the City Council of Tirana from acts and decisions taken unlawfully and in absence of a ruling of the Constitutional Court, which could have heavy financial and social consquences”, Leskaj wrote.
