At the Mandates Council, SPAK prosecutors are reading the report supporting the request to lift the immunity of Belinda Balluku.

Representing SPAK at the meeting are Klodian Braho and the two prosecutors investigating Belinda Balluku, Dritan Prençi and Dorina Bejko.

Balluku’s lawyers stated that when the prosecution seeks to replace a security measure, it is obliged to substantiate the required conditions. They said their client has complied with the measure and has not reported to duty.

“She has immediately handed over all personal documents,” they said.

SPAK is seeking a stricter security measure.

In its request to Parliament to lift the immunity of Deputy Prime Minister Belinda Balluku, the Special Prosecution argues that the change in the security measure is necessary to protect evidence and witnesses. The prosecution says that Balluku, still free and in office, has used her position to threaten one of her subordinates, who is also a witness.

The meeting began amid debate. The head of the Democratic Party’s parliamentary group, Gazment Bardhi, raised concerns over the more than two-month delay in acting on the prosecution’s request for the arrest of Deputy Prime Minister Belinda Balluku. “You have violated the Constitution and the Rules,” Bardhi declared.

He called for the meeting to be held behind open doors, but his request was rejected.
