A star in honor of police deputy commissar Saimir Hoxha that was murdered on duty during an anti-drug operation was put in the Memorial of Police Martyrs at the entrance of the Ministry of the Interior. The star of Hoxha, who was murdered by a 21-year-old man, joined the stars of 264 other fellow officers fallen on duty.
Albanian Premier Edi Rama held a short speech, promising the late officer’s children will never be alone. However, despite being in a homage ceremony, Rama again used it for propaganda and political gain.
He bragged a long time had passed since they had last put a star at the memorial.
“It’s been a long time since when the previous star was set here and somehow it’s a relief that the number of the tragic cases is less than the fingers of one hand”, said Rama.
Albanian fallen police officers are honored posthumously with stars dedicated to each of them on a memorial just outside the Ministry of the Interior.
