A noted Albanian scholar reacted ironically after a giant Turkish flag was projected on the façade of the Polytechnic University of Tirana last night, on the occasion of the Republic Day of Turkey.

Ardian Ndreca, a man of letters and professor at the Universita Urbaniana in Rome, asked Premier Edi Rama – whom he called ironically Mr. Baggy Pants – and Tirana Mayor Erion Veliaj whether Turkish President Erdogan would do the same thing in Istanbul on November 28, which is Albania’s Independence Day.

“I hope Erdogan will do the same thing on November 28 in Istanbul”, Ndreca wrote, referring to the commemoration of the day back in 1012, when Albania proclaimed its independence from the Turkish Empire.

“Bravo Bro Eri (Veliaj) and Mr. Baggy Pants, haute couture, you are capable to make one sick of the republican ideals because a republican sultanate is a controversy in itself”.
