The Democratic Party (PD) has reacted today on the government’s stance concerning the issue of maritime border with Greece.

PD is following attentively the developments following Greece’s statement on extending its territorial waters from 6 to 12 nautical miles. Considering the fact there is a suspended process of maritime delimitation between Albania and Greece, and the fact that it includes areas of opposite shores, a team of experts on the international right and on the Law on the Sea is studying the case.

As long as a definite agreement is not reached, both countries must act in a way that doesn’t endanger or obstructs reaching a definite and conclusive agreement.

This is an issue that needs transparence and detailed information on what’s happening, which is the maritime space the Greek territorial waters will extend, if there is a violation of the international laws, if Albania’s rights and maritime territory are threatened.

Instead of transparence and information, Premier Rama has chosen to hide behind vulgar verbal attacks. Meanwhile, the government continues no to offer information on the negotiations for maritime delimitation with Greece.

The Democratic Party supports the resolution of every suspended issue in the relationship with our neighbors through transparent negotiations, by respecting the international right and the 2010 ruling of the Albanian Constitutional Court, rejecting with determination any violation of Albania’s rights and territorial integrity.
