Democratic Party chairman Lulzim Basha said the breaking of police cordon in front of the prime ministry building was a scenario of Premier Edi Rama to incite violence in the opposition rally in Tirana.

Protesters clashed with the police and broke the cordon at the entrance of the building and trying to enter it forcefully, prompting the reaction of the Guard forces inside the building which used tear gas and water cannon.

Basha said it was a provocation.

“The Interior Minister knows pretty well that the police broke their cordon in order to create such a scene”, Basha told media reporters.

“As you can see, they are staying hands-crossed, because they have a scenario to incite violence. It started four days ago with the irresponsible declarations from the police and continued today. I have nothing against the police effectives, they received flowers from the protesters. Meanwhile, with the slightest pressure from the crowd, which of course is irritated, because there are residents of the Astir area, where house have been demolished for the project of the new city ring, suddenly we see the police cordon is broken. This means there is a plan for violence and then accuse the opposition. This is unacceptable”.
