Albanian Minister of the Interior raised a few eyebrows in the parliament today when he said the fellow countrymen that pass across the English Channel on dinghies from Calais in France to Dover are Britain’s problem instead of his.

Çuçi was summoned in interpellation in the parliament at the request of Democrat MP Ervin Salianji to report about the troublesome phenomenon. The Minister admitted there was a significant increase of the illegal migration to Britain, however he assumed no responsibilities saying it was a problem for the United Kingdom and its law.

“People want to move, to find better lives. But look at how much the asylum requests in EU have been lowered, from 65,000 to 11,000. Considering the migrants flux to Britain, we’ve never had better relations with the British institutions. The number has increased, but that is Britain’s problem. We’re analyzing why it has increased. Many Albanian that are reaching UK have been living abroad, in other European countries, for a long time now and now they want to move to England”, said Çuçi.
