Albanian President Ilir Meta has announced he will file a penal lawsuit against Minister of Justice Etilda Gjonaj. The President accused the minister of a number of criminal offences: abuse of office and flagrant falsifications related to the Justice Nominations Council (KED).

He said Gjonaj should resign from her post and face the lawsuit as a citizen.

“The evidence we’ll be handled to SPAK (the special anti-corruption prosecution), showing the direct involvement of Etilda Gjonaj, but also of high functionaries of the ministry, her subordinates, on the account of the Mafioso scenario of seizing the Consitutional Court”, Preside Meta said.

“Gjonaj ordered the Secretary General to send for publication in the Official Gazette a decision that could be published only in the page of the Constitutional Court. The Minister has no competence to send the KED acts for publication. She ordered the publication without being asked to”, Meta said, adding he will file the lawsuit within next Monday.
