The construction permits in Tirana know no limits as the Municipality of Mayor Erion Veliaj has given 94 permits out of 245 in the whole country in the first trimester of 2019, a figure that is 11% higher than the same period last year.

Especially in the last three years, giving construction permits has increased significantly, despite Veliaj’s electoral promise to interrupt giving permits without criteria in the Albanian capital.

According to the Albanian Institute of Statistics, Instat, the permits for residential buildings make 66% of the total number, with buildings for commercial purpose taking 34% of the permits.

Many experts of economy say the construction industry is used as a laundry for the dirty money of the organized crime and traffics. The doubts have been strengthened by latest reports of the US Department of State and EU law enforcing agencies.

Specialists of the field find it strange to have such a boom in construction of high-priced buildings while the demand for them is still low.
