Democratic Party chairman Lulzim Basha has gathered the executive bureau today where he has made three important proposals concerning the upcoming municipal and mayoral elections of June 30. The opposition announced it will boycott the elections unless Premier Edi Rama steps down from his post and open way to a transitional government that will lead the country towards earlier general elections.

In the today’s meeting, Basha proposed to the Democrat executive bureau the registration of the party in the elections only if the conditions for free and fair elections are created.

The current political situation in the country cannot guarantee the democratic standards for free and fair elections and it has been proved that Edi Rama’s government was colluded with the organized crime to buy out votes.

Secondly, Basha has proposed to the Democratic Party not to allow the conduction of façade elections that would destroy democracy and the Albanian citizens’ will.

Basha’s last proposal was to mandate the party chairman and the secretary general to negotiate with the other parties of the opposition for an agreement that would guarantee free and fair elections, the protection of public interest and formalization of the oppositionist action to reach these goals.
