A Democratic Party official has been threatened at gunpoint last week not to return again to Tepelenë, South Albania, and criticize the Socialist government. Florian Xhuti, a Democrat functionary, saw the gun held to his head after the meetings he had in the framework of the Party’s reorganization.

Deputy Enkelejd Alibeaj, who denounced the incident, told the media reporters the messages conveyed was “a poor attempt to shut the opposition’s mouth, which has denounced strongly the cultivation and traffic of cannabis in the area of Tepelenë, Memaliaj and everywhere in Albania”.

“It is a criminal event that aims the intimidation of the opposition and keeping it away from the areas that as far as yesterday were planted with cannabis, with the permission of (former Interior Minister) Saimir Tahiri”, Alibeaj said.
