Premier Edi Rama has announced the closure of slaughter houses, drawing parallels between the cruel act of slaughtering livestock in the streets and the opposition’s protest for the right of debate and free speech.

"We have remained the only country that slaughter both in the parliament and in the streets”, Rama said. “It is the truth that has been slaughtered in the parliament, because the process started by the opposition is breaking the rules and returning the parliament into a degraded club”.

"Meanwhile, the blood on the streets is a barbarism. It’s to cry out loud when a dog, an innocent creature is slaughtered, but no one cries out loud for the criminal slaughtering of livestock before the eyes of kids and families, without any elementary hygienic conditions. Slaughter houses will close and work following the standards. In the Netherlands they slaughter many times more than us and they have only three slaughter houses. This must come to an end”.
