Albania registered 30,507 deaths in 2021, according to the Institute of Statistics, INSTAT, which is 10.5% higher than in the previous year. The figure marks the highest number of deaths ever recorded in the country and it is related to the pandemic of Covid-19, especially for the first half of 2021.

Males have the highest number of death, 16,883, equal to 55%, a 3% raise from the yearly normal, whereas 13,624 were females.

INSTAT reported the mortality rate for 2021 was 1,085 deaths per 100,000 residents, from 972.7 deaths per 100K residents in 2020. Deaths of natural causes were 97.3% of the total.
