Democratic Party Chairman Sali Berisha said Premier Edi Rama has established a dictatorship of criminal gangs in the country, replacing the communist dictatorship that was overthrown in the early 1990s.

Berisha was speaking in an event on the occasion of the 50^th anniversary of the revolt of the political prisoners in the prison of Spaç, one of the most terrible ones during communism in Albania.

“Today, Edi Rama cannot set a classic dictatorship like the dictatorship of his (spiritual) fathers. But, in many aspects he has established in Albania the worst type of all dictatorships, which is the dictatorship of the gangs, which has a gangster as its head”, Berisha said. “The incidents of the last Sunday are still fresh, when the government bandits threatened the people’s lives at gunpoint only because they wanted to vote free and were organizing a process that is a constitutional obligation”.

“Worse than in an ideological dictatorship, Sunday witnessed a full melting of the State Police with the gangs. I had video footage sent to me from Lezha showing how bandits passed from Blinisht to another area always escorted by the police. Look at how the media and propaganda are in a hurry to hide this farce, to disguise it. There is no clearer peculiarity of a dictatorial regime than this”.
