Former Albanian Premier Sali Berisha responded to former disgraced chairman of the Democratic Party Lulzim Basha who, like Premier Edi Rama, said the Special Structure against Corruption (SPAK) must investigate the persons that have been declared non grata from the United States.

Berisha said Basha had departed for the United States only to turn back in Rome, because the FBI was waiting for him there.

“I have made that appeal long ago, but the only person that is facing both international and the Albanian justice is Lulzim Basha”, Berisha told media reporters today. “So, when he comes before you, please ask him why turned back from Rome to Tirana without continuing his trip to the United States. He turned back because FBI has his Nick Muzin case still open. If he went there, he would face the law”.

“You also should ask why Edi Rama closed his (Basha’s) Russina file. You need to keep up with the investigation sense, in the best interest of your profession. Not to mention then the Toyota Yaris case”.

The Toyota Yaris case is an ongoing investigation in Belgium and Albania, after €3.4 million were seized in two Toyota Yaris in the harbor of Durrës. Basha spoke of the money being transported aboard the vehicles even before it was captured and accused the head of the Socialist Party parliamentary group Taulant Balla as the owner. However, Belgian investigators that visited Tirana in February interviewed Basha in relation to the case.

“Basha is a member of the group”, said Berisha. “But there are a few troubles that he caused to himself. It is the Muzin file, the Toyota Yaris, and maybe others. They are international affairs”.
