Albanian President Ilir Meta announced today the partial mayoral elections for the municipalities without a Mayor will take place either on Feberuary 27 or March 6.

Meta made his announcement after head of the Socialist Party parliamentary group Taulant Balla said the elections will be held on March 6.

The President said Balla and he had talked about the elections date, highlighting his concern that the majority might not participate in the elections. Meta added the elections will be conducted in six municipalities, because he is still waiting for a decision for the Municipality of Lushnja, the Mayor of which has been arrested over corruption charges.

“I have communicated with the institutions in every step. I also communicated with the Constitutional Court about the Lushnja case for which we are expecting a decision within this day”, President Meta told media reporters.
