Albania has expelled two Iranian diplomats and declared them non grata, the Foreign Miniter Gent Cakaj announced today.

“The Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs has decided today to declare the diplomatic representatives of the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Albania, Mr. Mohammad Ali Arz Peimanemati and Mr. Seyed Ahmad Hosseini Alast, as persona non grata due to their activities not in accordance with their status and the principles of the Vienna Convent for the Diplomatic relations”, Cakaj wrote on his Facebook page.

“The two representatives of the Islamic Republic of Iran were asked to leave immediately the territory of the Republic of Albania”.

Seyed Ahmed Hosseini Alast is accredited as a cultural attaché but appears to be a member of the Revolutionary Guard of the Islamic Republic which has been declared a terrorist organization by the US State Department.

Mohamed Peimanemati is a councilor of the Iranian Embassy in Tirana, but he results to be a member of the operational unit of the Iranian intelligence Mois, responsible for several terrorist attacks in EU.

In December 2018 Albania expelled Iranian Ambassador Gholamhossein Mohammadnia while two Iranian citizens were arrested on suspicion of preparing an attack during a Bektashi Muslims holiday.
