Socialist Party MP Alqi Bllako has been arrested by police today at his home in Tirana after he relinquished his MP mandate. Bllako is accused of abuse of office and corruption in relation to the waste incinerator of Fier.

The former MP, who was taken in custody by Tirana police, is accused of appropriating 15 million Albanian Lek by falsifying documents of expropriation for an arable land area that was turned into plot land where the incinerator of Fier would be built. The Special Prosecution against Corruption (SPAK) said the offense was committed in cooperation with former Minister of the Environment Lefter Koka and the head of expropriations Pëllumb Abeshi.

Bllako rejected the accusations and said he will clarify the truth before justice.
