Former Albanian Prime Minister Saili Berisha has raised the alarm that the health system is collapsing due to the continuous exodus of doctors towards the EU countries, mainly Germany.
According to Berisha, a prominent cardiologist before committing himself to politics, 270 doctors have left Albania in the last 18 month only, out of which 145 have left during the last year and 125 so far this year.
Berisha adds a number of peripheral districts lack specialists for children, women and other important fields.
“The causes of this big abandonment of the country are their salaries that were frozen for three years, the installation of a system of mega-corruption from Rama and (former health minister) Beqja and repeated threats to their lives”, Berisha writes.
