The Democratic Party of Albania marks today the 35th anniversary of its founding, an occasion that the party’s leader, Sali Berisha, describes as a moment of reflection and celebration with all those who have taken part in the political journey of the country’s first opposition force.
In a Facebook post, Berisha writes that the DP “was born as a movement for freedom and democracy,” and that, three and a half decades later, it remains a symbol of resistance and hope for Albanians.
The anniversary ceremony will take place today at 18:00 at the Democratic Party headquarters, with prominent political figures, DP members, and supporters from across Albania expected to attend.
Full statement:
“The Democratic Party was born as a movement for freedom and democracy. Thirty-five years later, we gather to celebrate its founding, and we want to do so with those who shared these turbulent years, through good times and bad, with the first force of freedom.
