Democratic Party Chairman Sali Berisha urged the Albanian government to half the taxation on oil immediately as it is seen as a major factor for the high price of fuel in Albania. In addition, Berisha said in a press conference today the government must subsidize the urban and interurban transport tickets, which affects directly the tourism industry.

“The oil tax of €1.1  is the highest in the world and has become a major factor in the stratospheric price of fuel in Albania”, said Berisha.

“Its reduction from €1.1 to €0.5 would bring lower oil prices”.

“Who thinks that it will empty the state coffers is wrong. It would suffice for the government to put taxes on nearly 250,000 tons of oil that bypass the customs system in Albania. We must be very clear here that there is no possibility of smuggling oil into this country without the aid of the government”.
