Albanian Premier Edi Rama was escorted by German police from a Lufthansa flight after he had refused to wear an anti-Covid mask, the German magazine Der Spiegel reported today.

The incident took place last December on the Frankfurt-Detroit flight when Rama rejected requests from the staff to wear the mask according to the German law. After the captain failed to convince him too, the police were called to escort the Albanian Premier off the plane.

Rama complied only after an employ of the German Foreign Ministry met him in the Senator lounge and the air company rebooked him and his crew of ten persons on another flight to Detroit.

Lufthansa CEO Carsten Spohr lately mentioned the incident in an interview with Der Spiegel but without revealing names. He said that everyone are demanded to wear a mask – even a Prime Minister.
