Albanian President Ilir Meta showed today in a press conference why he was drawn against his will into the electoral campaign. The parliament decided to discharge the President after a Committee of Inquiry determined he had committed violations of the Constitution before and during the electoral campaign.

Meta repeated today the Committee of Inquiry was only a maneuver of the Socialist majority to distract the attention away from the electoral crimes.

Then he introduced a video to show why he was drawn in the campaign. The video footage showed parts of Premier Edi Rama’s electoral campaign and the presentation of the Socialist candidates. A pictre showed Minister of Justice Etilda Gjonaj facing President Ilir Meta, whith Rama asking “Who will you vote for on April 25?”

Then, Meta showed the electoral billboards put across the country, again including himself.

“Be sure, it wasn’t the President or the opposition that put these, because the local power is under the control of only one party”, said Meta of the billboards with electoral slogans such as “These do not deserve another chance”.

“It would have been nice to have had model elections, but everyone knows the President did his best to prevent the elections degradation and it’s a shame that the number of electoral denounces was much higher than in 2017. It happened due to the lack of investigation of the investigative files of Dibra and Shijak”, Meta told the media reporters.
