Democratic Party chairman Lulzim Basha promised today the Albanian opposition will not allow the conduction of the farcical elections of June 30. The opposition has decided to boycott the municipal and mayoral elections unless Premier Edi Rama steps down and opens the way for a transitional cabinet that will ensure free and fair elections.

“An election without the participation of the opposition would be a farce. We will not allow the elections in Albania to be organized and dictated by crime”, Basha said in the Democrat College of the Chairpersons today.

He said the elections will take place only after the thieves of the votes in 2017 have been punished.

“There cannot be free elections with Edi Rama with Vangjush Dako and Damian Gjiknuri by his side, neither today, nor any day”, Basha said.

“Rama’s removal opens the way to the political solution we, the united and legitimate opposition of Albania, have requested”.

The College decided to call the next big national protest on May 11 to “show that the Albanians refuse categorically to be stolen and governed by crime”.
