The Albanian government will not back off from the plan of constructing a pedestrian street in Himara, a project that will see the demolishment of several old dwelling places.

Ministers Damian Gjiknuri and Mirela Kumbaro met the representatives of Himara residents in Vlorë today.

Gjiknuri said the residents that will be affected by the project will be compensated with the market value for their property.

Parties agreed to meet again next Friday.

The Himara project foresees the demolition of 80 buildings and it has caused feuds between the Albanian and Greek governments, with the later claiming to protect the rights of the Greek minority.
