The scandalous affair of the sterilization concession in Albania is expected to expand even further after new developments have been revealed.

The Albanian Special Prosecution against Corruption (SPAK) said that the original contract of the concession, signed 10 years ago, has disappeared.

The prosecutors said they possess only a certified copy of the original, but not the original copy with the signature of the then-Minister of Health Ilir Beqaj and of the arrested businessman Ilir Rrapaj. The original copy is lost and cannot be found in the ministry archives either. of the ministry. SPAK had earlier made the decision to seize the complete original documentary practice of the sterilization concession procedure, but they found themselves in front of an unexpected situation.

“The judicial police officers have seized the concession file from the Ministry of Health. Despite all the searches in the institution and the archive of the Ministry of Health, the officials could not find and had not put in their disposal the original concession contract or the relevant annexes. The seized documentation is the original of the numbered copy sent by the Ministry of Health regarding the concession granting procedure with letter number 910/1 dated February 19, 2020”.

On Thursday, the police arrested eight suspects, former Deputy Minister of Health Klodian Rjepaj and the businessman Rrapaj, who are accused of being involved in the sterilization concession, which is worth €100 million.

This concession has committed several criminal offenses like corruption, forgery and fraud, with an economic damage estimated at €76 million.
