The Socialist majority in the Albanian parliament has given in to the opposition pressure and has decided to accelerate the procedures for the request made by the Special Prosecution against Corruption (SPAK) for the arrest of former minister of Finances Arben Ahmetaj.

The parliament session that will decide the fate of the former minister will take place on Friday, July 14, at 10am.

The Democrat MP Gazment Bardhi deposited a request in the parliament today demanding to vote today for SPAK’s request instead of Monday at 17:00, as it was initially scheduled by the majority MPs in the Council of Mandates.

After several verbal conflicts between the majority and the opposition, which made Speaker Lindita Nikolla interrupt the session four times, head of the Socialist parliamentary group Taulant Balle asked a meeting to reach a consensus with the opposition. At the meeting, the sides agreed to accelerate the process and assemble the parliament tomorrow before noon.
