Democratic Party Chairman Sali Berisha said today in an electoral meeting in Dibra that the upcoming mayoral elections of May 14 are a chance for the restore of pluralism in Albania as well as a chance for the opposition to make amends for the mistake of four years ago, when the opposition led by former Democrat chairman Lulzim Basha decided to boycott the elections, leaving to the ruling Socialist Party almost all the municipalities in the country.

“May 14 elections are elections for the restoration of the pluralism. We Democrats brought the political pluralism in Albania, but in 2019 we made a mistake by becoming co-authors in the ruining of the pluralism when we boycotted the local elections. It was a historic mistake, an unforgivable mistake. For that reason we must work day and night”, said Berisha.

“On May 14 we will have the chance of our lives to separate from this gang of thieves, this criminal organization that is using your money in the most abusive way. The today’s system is a system of stealing everything from the citizens”.

Berisha also appealed to the Socialist supporters to vote for the opposition “because pluralism is vital for our freedoms. They must join us because a robbery like that against Albanians does not happen in any country else in the world”.

The Democrat leader debunked Tirana’s Mayor Erion Veliaj claims of planting 1 million trees in the Albanian capital, accusing him of stealing through the bills.

“He thinks Albanians are primitive people when he speaks of planting 1 million trees in Tirana. 1 million trees would require a forest area of 600 hectares minimally. They steal through fake bills”, said Berisha.
