The Democratic Party and the Freedom Party of Albania reached today the agreement of cooperation for the local elections of May 14, 2023. Respective chairmen Sali Berisha and Ilir Meta signed the agreement on cooperation that would “offer the Albanian citizens a winning alternative” in the next year local elections”.

The agreement between the Democratic Party and the Freedom Party:

Today, on October 27, 2022, we, the representatives of the Democratic Party and the Freedom Party, sign the following agreement, after finding that Albania is in critical moments because of:

I. Destructive corruption;

II. Annihilation of political pluralism at the local level;

III. Massive and tragic depopulation;

IV. Economic crisis, which is leading to the collapse of the country;

V. Governance held hostage by traffic, dirty money and corruption.

Under these circumstances, the Democratic Party of Albania and the Freedom Party agree to offer Albania a winning alternative in the local elections of May 14, 2023 that represents only the interests of citizens and the highest public interest.

The Democratic Party and the Freedom Party decide:

1. To run joint candidates for the Mayors of the Municipalities that will be elected by the primaries that will be organized by the Democratic Party of Albania.

2. A referendum, as a form of direct expression of the citizens' will for any issue that concerns them at central or local level, will be a major and inalienable commitment, for which the Democratic Party and the Freedom Party will undertake all legal initiatives and the public actions necessary for the realization of this constitutional right denied for 25 years.

3. Municipal Councils, as the most important institutions of citizen representation, will be led by representatives proposed by the Freedom Party, in cases where the latter's councilors are decisive in securing the majority in these councils.

4. To commit to the realization of full transparency for the management and use of all public funds, as well as all decisions of Municipal Councils and Municipalities related to them, including the organization of open public sessions, with live links on national televisions and social networks, in function of accountability to citizens.

5. To engage, with special priority, for the continuous realization of open public sessions of Municipal Councils, with live links on national televisions and social networks, where citizens can be heard directly in plenary sessions.

6. To engage through joint institutional initiatives to stop the criminal and corrupt concretization of cities, giving priority in local decision-making to the health of citizens and green cities.
