The Alliance for the Protection of the National Theater has filed a lawsuit at the Special Prosecution against Corruption (SPAK) against Tirana’s Mayor Erion Veliaj over the opening of the race for the construction of the new National Theater based on Bjarke Ingels’ project in a time when the demolition of the old Theater is still under investigation along with Ingels’ project.

Attorney Adriana Kalaja said the Alliance representatives have requested a preventive sequester on the construction land and Ingels’ project.

Kalaja also said Mayor Veliaj’s acts are anti-constitutional “because he did not return the National Theater to the Ministry of Culture as the Constitutional Court ruled”.

“We think Veliaj has committed penal and corruptive offenses”, said Kalaja, adding that with Veliaj’s arrest SPAK would make a huge service to the fight against corruption.
