The Parliament of Albania will meet today at 18:00 in a special session for the election of the new President of the Republic. Major General Bajram Begaj, currently the Chief of Staff of the Albanian Armed Forces, is the presidential candidate proposed by the Socialist Party.

Begaj was born in March 20, 1967 in Rrogozhina and was appointed Chief of Staff of the Albanian Armed Forces in 2020.

He has a degree in General Medicine from the School of Medicine of the University of Tirana, as is also Associate Professor of Medicine.

Begaj is married with two children.

If elected today, Begaj will replace incumbent President Ilir Meta on July 24.
