Basha and Berisha pay homage to the statue of the Hero of Democracy Azem Hajdari

Democratic Party Chairman Lulzim Basha and his predecessor Sali Paris, along with other high leaders of the opposition, paid homage today to the statue of Azem Hajdari, a Hero of Democracy. Hajdari was the leader of the students’ movement against the communist regime that led to political pluralism in Albania and the foundation of the Democratic Party.

The late Azem Hajdari was the first chairman of the newly founded Democratic Party, succeeded in the post by Sali Berisha, later to become the first non-communist President of Albania. Hajdari was assassinated on September 12 1998.
