Tirana Mayor Erion Veliaj is paying $8 million for the reconstruction of a street only 600 meters long. This is the accusation made by the Democratic Party through the head of the Youth Forum Party Belind Këlliçi.

Këlliçi said the reconstruction of Tirana’s Zog I boulevard is very expensive, costing $15 million per kilometer for a street that is only being reconstructed, and has neither bridges, nor tunnels or overpasses.

“A €16 million/km highway was built in Ireland and EU reacted immediately. In Albania, so far from Ireland’s standards, they make road reconstruction costing $15 million per kilometer. It is robbery like this that keep Albania away from opening the accession negotiations”.
