Three officer of Kavaja’s police department have been arrested by the Internal Affairs after a man died in custody, officially by hanging himself.

Ilvi Meta, 31, was arrested for theft on Wednesday around noon and committed suicide only six hours after being taken in custody.

He was accused of stealing a sewing machine and tiles cutter in a home in Kavaja.

The victim’s father accused the police, saying he did not believe the official version of the suicide. Ilvi Meta’s name was familiar to the police, as he had been arrested 18 other times for different criminal offenses.
