Albanian Institute of Public Health has responded to the interest about the R0 in the country. R0 refers to the average number of people that one sick person goes on to infect in a group that has no immunity. Director of the Institute, Entela Tomini, said R0 is currently below 1, which means that one infected persons infects less than one other persons.

“We have calculated R0 to be smaller than 1”, Tomini said. “Countries like Germany and Italy say their R0 is nearly 0-8”.

Asked about the hospital beds at disposal, she said there are 310 beds at the disposal of the Covid-19 patients at the hospital of the infective diseases and at the Sanatorium in Tirana.

So far, 21 children have been infected in the country from the beginning of the pandemics, but none of them has been hospitalized.

“The pandemic in Albania has been rather mild”, she added.
