Tirana Mayor Erion Veliaj has vowed to make “a living hell” the lives of the members and president of the Albanian Football Association, one month prior to the presidential election of March 2.

Veliaj was recorded during a meeting with members of Tirana Regional Football Association which has voting rights in the FA elections.

“Not UEFA and FIFA, but even if God himself and Muhammad come here they cannot stop my fight. I’ll make everything possible to make their lives living hell with the Prosecution Office and SPAK (special structure against corruption”, Veliaj is heard saying in the audio recording made public by the Albanian FA. “Even if we want to withdraw now we can’t, because the Prosecution Office has been put in motion”.

After the recording was made public, Democrat MP Edi Paloka reacted, saying Veliaj “would have been arrested if real justice existed in this country”.

“Unfortunately, as he confirmed, justice and SPAK are at his service”.
