Opposition leader Sali Berisha said the opposition must rise with full force, calling it a last-ditch effort to overthrow the narco-state.
In his remarks, Berisha said electoral manipulation, theft and ties to drug trafficking have been proven, stressing that under these circumstances the opposition remains the only hope.
Berisha called for an intensification of protests and the use of different forms of resistance, including strikes and hunger strikes, warning that the opposition is determined to take this fight all the way to the end.
Statement to the media:
Here we are. They have no limits. That is why the only hope is the opposition. We must rise with all our strength as a final effort to bring down this narco-state. Everything has been proven. The electoral farce has been proven in the most conclusive way. The theft has been proven, and these are only the tip of the iceberg. The links to drug trafficking have been proven. A prestigious American newspaper wrote that several intelligence agencies told that newspaper that the main beneficiary of drug clans is Edi Rama.
Therefore, we must organize the most determined forms of protest, resistance and revolt.
They have destroyed Parliament. There is no Parliament. You've seen it, people go in, come out, and it's shut down as soon as it starts.
Free elections. A government that prepares free elections is the condition of all conditions for us. The date of the 22nd has been called. Our protests will be diversified with strikes, hunger strikes and all forms, as long as we fulfill our mission. And we are determined to fulfill it.
All of us must be clear that with this regime, sustained protest and sustained revolt are vital. These are the forms that bring down narco-dictatorships and dictatorships. The involvement of as many young people as possible in this battle, a battle the opposition will win, the Albanian people will win.
Never before have things been like this… Gentlemen, I said it yesterday and I will close with this: Enver Hoxha, who was completely unaccountable, must be very clear, all of his corruption during 45 years of dictatorship, economic corruption I mean, not the bloodshed, as abuse, is not even half, not even a quarter, of that of municipal directors.
Go and look at the hotel yourselves. His villa was never registered in his or his family's name. It was state property. Go and see the €70 million, 20-story hotel of Erion Veliaj and the municipal directors. These people have no restraint. They have corrupted the media to the core, and the media acts as their advocate.
So this is a mission. The opposition is on a real mission, a mission that requires sacrifice. And I am convinced there are hundreds and thousands of Albanians ready to make sacrifices.
