The new academic year in Albania has started amidst lessons and boycott, as university teachers across the country are striking for better salaries.

A university professor, Adrian Isufi, told the television RTV Ora that only a small number of the academic staff is going ahead with the school program and the majority is on strike.

“Only a small part of the professors have taught. More than 70% of the teachers have signed the petition. It is not only a salary issue”, said Issufi.

Asked about how the strike will continue if the government does not meet the requirements, he said the boycott will go on and students are joining it. In case the government is not willing to listen, other requests will be added.
