The Freedom Party, led by former President Ilir Meta, has expressed its support for the decision of the Albanian government to cut diplomatic ties with the Islamic Republic of Iran over a number of cyberattacks on the online public services and government sites in July.

Former Albanian Ambassador to the United Nations Agim Nesho, now deputy chairman of the Freedom Party, said it was the right move albeit a little late. Albanian Premier Edi Rama announced the cut of relations with immediate effect and asked the Embassy personnel to leave the country within 24 hours.

“The Freedom Party supports this extreme measure in the diplomatic relations between our two countries, calling it right but a little late against a country with aggressive and destabilizing goals against Albania, a source of unacceptable threat to our national security”, said Neshbi.
