Democratic Party Chairman Sali Berisha spoke about the importance of the referendums in Albania, which he deemed as necessary as the Constitution has fallen and Premier Edi Rama controls of the powers.

“We have been talking about referendums for some time now. We have spoken about it in several meetings and I appreciate the position of the Freedom Party considering the referendums”, said Berisha in a press conference today.

“The Constitution has lost its meaning with the capture of all powers from Edi Rama, it has fallen de facto. A Constitution’s mission is the separation of powers. This mission has lost. In addition, due to many modifications, it has lost its agility. Also, Albania is the only country where the citizens cannot speak through their votes”, said Berisha.

Former President Ilir Meta, now chairman of the Freedom Party, spoke about a technical cabinet in September in a press conference on Thursday. Asked whether Meta and he have spoken about a technical cabinet, Berisha responded their only objective is Edi Rama’s departure.

“We have not discussed (about a technical cabinet). Our thesis is that Rama must leave as soon as possible. After the removal of this government the most important task would be the preparation of free and fair elections. Whether it will be a technical cabinet that will be tasked with it, that is something to be decided by the political forces”, said Berisha.
