Albanian President Ilir Meta blamed today Premier Edi Rama’s government for the political protection of criminal groups and their evasion from justice calling to the latter to act and give an end for good to the phenomenon.

The President of the Republic also criticized the passivity of the law-enforcing bodies following the latest report of the UN Office on Drugs and Crime that ranked Albania again among the top countries in the world for the production of cannabis as well as a main route for the heroine traffic.

“The organized crime remains a serious threat to Albania’s national security. The State Police, the State Intelligence Service, the Prosecution Office, and law-enforcing agencies haven’t yet focused seriously in the fight against the cannabization and  drugs traffic, which is a pre-condition for the EU integration”, President Meta wrote.

“The political protection of the criminal groups and their evasion from justice, the use of gangs in the electoral campaigns, and allowing them to continue the traffics that have seriously damaged the country’s image must end for good. All Albanians know who the criminal groups and their partners in the highest state levels are. Justice must act now!”
