The historic leader of the Albanian Democrats Sali Berisha denounced Edi Rama’s scandal in relation tio the country’s gasification. Berisha was speaking in a meeting with energy experts, organized by the Democratic Party.

“Their attitude towards TAP (the Trans-Adriatic Pipeline) has been entirely corruptive in rapport with the gas clientele in Albania. The contract approved in the parliament in 2013 has clear legal definitions. The construction consortium is obliged to let an outlet in Seman for Albania, also for the whole region. Like that, Albania would become a main hub of supplying Europe with gas”, said Berisha.

“We had in Vlora a state-of-the-art thermal power station, totally transformable to use gas, in the time when TAP wasn’t talked about… Now, nine years later, the Albanian government – instead of laying pipes from Vlora’s thermal power station to Seman, where the gas outlet had to be according to the contract – contracted a company for liquid gas with cost that is clearly higher than TAP gas. When it became public, Edi Rama said the pipeline from Vlora to Seman will also be laid. But what hasn’t it been done? Nothing was done in nine years for the diversification of energy in a country with all the potential”, said Berisha.

The former Prime Minister also said the Socialist government did nothing for the country’s gasification because “the gas importing companies dictate the policy through with their envelopes”.

“And, do you know where they import it from? They take it from Russia”, Berisha said.
