Albanian Premier Edi Rama accused today the large countries as the biggest polluters of the environment and said Albania is suffering the consequences. Rama was speaking at the 2021 United Nations Climate Change Conference in Glasgow, United Kingdom.

He added Albania is not a polluting country and it needs help from the great countries to deal with the energy crisis.

“I am arguably the tallest one here, but I come from one of the smallest countries, Albania. In meetings like this we are told what to do, to listen, to take notes”, Rama said in his address.

“However, I haven’t received an answer yet to the question I asked before coming here: How do the big polluters intend to help us, a non-polluting country? Yes, that’s right, a non polluting country”.

“Our energy production is 100% hydroelectricity, 100% renewable. We could have accepted all the offers for thermal power stations to meet our needs during the dry season. So, my country is asking whether we are paying for doing the right thing. I believe we will receive a lot of funding to fight this problem. This financing should not come in the form of loans that take our countries into the debt cycle trap, but through grants that empower us to invest”.
