Albanian Premier Edi Rama admitted money was offered to Albania to build a refugees camp, but his government rejected it. In an interview with German television NTV, Rama said Albania did for the Afghan refugees the same it did for the Albanian citizens that were hit by the earthquake.

“Refugees camps are inhumane. I think they are among reasons why the communities around get agitated, when people see refugees in their vicinities gathered in the camps. When too many people are coming, sometimes camps are needed, but in our case we took a decision. Despite being offered money to build a refugees camp, we refused. In this case we did the same thing for our people when our country was hit by the earthquake on November 26, 2019”, Rama said.

Asked about the blocking of the EU integration process, Rama said he was not surprised.

“I wasn’t really expecting anything else. In the past we would be disappointed, but we’ve come to understood that Europe is not in its best shape and we understand this, so we just continue with our job”.
