Democratic Party Chairman Lulzim Basha told a press conference today that Premier Edi Rama is a threat to the national interests and Albania must be represented by a legitimate government to the International Court of Justice. Rama, in the capacity of the Albanian Foreign Minister, and Greek FM Nikos Dendias said in a joint press conference the two countries will head to the international justice for the solution of the dispute over the maritime borders.

“For ten years, after the ruling of the Albanian Constitutional Court, Democratic Party’s and my opinion has been that this dispute should be treated by the organs of the international justice. Albania today has an urgent need to prepare the initial phase, because a huge work is required in this aspect”, Basha said.

“Alas, this is not the right moment. Six months before the election, this government has neither the legitimacy nor the necessary level or preparation. Furthermore, based on the Prime Minister’s public declarations, it may constitute a danger to the national interests, not a guarantee for them”.

The opposition leader said his party and he still believe the dispute must be solved in an international court of law, but the country must be represented “by a legitimate government that has come out of legitimate and democratic election”.
