Albanian Premier Edi Rama is determined to go ahead with the elections for the local government this Sunday in the face of President Ilir Meta’s decree that cancelled June 30 as the elections date. Fearing a strong reaction by the opposition supporters to block the elections, the Albanian Prime Minister has put the whole police force at the disposal of the elections but seems that’s not enough.

Rama has decided to deploy the army for the transport of electoral materials in the country, to avoid any blockage from the opposition supporters as was the case with his campaign visits in many counties.

Using the vehicles of a NATO member army for electoral purposes is the latest unprecedented step from Rama, after the threats with prison of the citizens and warnings for the employees of the administration which face losing their jobs unless they vote on Sunday.
