The Democratic Party urged the Albanian government to compensate the residents that have been expropriated for the construction of Tirana’s new ring road.
"The residents in the area of the new city ring area, to which Premier Edi Rama and Tirana’s Mayor Erion Veliaj took their votes and money for the property legalizations, must be compensated”, said the opposition party in an official statement after disclosing publicly that €18 million for the construction of the road will be given to shell company with unknown owners and registered in fiscal havens.
There are 317 buildings, houses and business shops that will be destroyed to make space for the new road, leaving hundreds of families and business under the open air. The residents have been protesting for days now and are determined not to allow abuses with their property.
